Per occurrence vs aggregate
Per occurrence is the most the policy will pay for one event. Aggregate is the most it will pay for the term.
What it means
GL often shows $1,000,000 each occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate, plus a separate products-completed operations aggregate. Umbrella sits above those numbers; it does not replace them.
Why it shows up
Contracts specify both. A certificate that only shows “$1M” is incomplete if the aggregate is what the owner actually asked for.
What to look for
- Each occurrence
- General aggregate
- Products-completed operations aggregate
- Per-project aggregate (CG 25 03)
